General Information for Online Application


1. Application Period
  1 September 2017 - 1 December 2017

2. Documents to be Submitted Together with the Application
 
(a) Photocopies
  - HKID card (for local applicants) or passport/other identity document of home country (for non-local applicants)
  - Degree certificate(s)/graduation diploma(s) AND transcript(s) for Academic Qualification(s) (in English)
  - A valid TOEFL/IELTS score (for applicants who graduated from universities where English is not the medium of instruction): The minimum requirement is IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 550 (PBT)/79(IBT)
  - Other Test Results (e.g.GRE/GMAT)/Professional Qualifications
     
    Please go to the "Supporting Document" section to upload the copies.
 
(b)   Academic Referee's Report Form
    Applicants are required to invite two referees to complete the Academic Referee's Report Form. Proposed supervisor(s) from HKBU and persons from non-academic background are not considered as appropriate academic referees. Upon duly completion of the Form, kindly request them to send it directly to the Graduate School within two weeks from the date you submitted your application. Referees can send back their recommendations to the Graduate School (Address) by post or email (gs@hkbu.edu.hk). If you want to submit on their behalf, you have to post to us the signed forms sealed by your referees.
 
(c)   Confidential Recommendations from Past/Current Affiliated Institution (optional)
    Please go to the "Supporting Document" section to upload the copies under "Academic Qualifications".

3. Application Fee: HK$300 (Non-refundable)
  To complete the submission of your application, you are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of HK$300 for each online application through E-Payment. That is to pay on-line by credit card, either VISA, MASTER or CUP card. Otherwise the application will not be further processed.
 
Note 1 : If you would like to use the VISA/MASTER card to pay for the online application fee (non-refundable), please select E-Payment option and choose the BEA JETCO Payment Gateway.
Note 2 : If you would like to use the CUP card to pay for the online application fee (non-refundable), you are required to use Internet Explorer 7.0 or above to submit e-payment. Please select E-Payment option; then choose UnionPay Online Payment (UPOP).
Note 3 : If your online payment is not successful, please try the E-Payment method again later. All applicants who have successfully submitted their online application forms will receive an acknowledgement e-mail message from the University as confirmation.
4. Student Visa
  The Hong Kong Immigration Department requires all full-time non-local students (from overseas or the Mainland China) to obtain a student visa in order to study in Hong Kong. Applications should normally be made at least two months in advance through the University. Applicants will be informed of the details once they are given the admission offer. (Part-time non-local students should possess appropriate and valid visa to prove their eligibility to stay and study in Hong Kong.)

5. Application Acknowledgement
  After you have submitted the application, an application acknowledgement note with an application number will be sent to you by email. Please check the accuracy of your application data and report any discrepancies immediately in writing to the Graduate School. You are advised to quote your application number in all subsequent correspondence with the University.

6. Change in Personal Particulars After Submission of Application
  During the application period, applicants should report changes in personal particulars such as correspondence address, contact number(s), etc. to the Graduate School in writing immediately.

7. Notification of Results
  Results of HKPFS will be announced in late March/April 2018 at the website of Research Grants Council(RGC). Please click HERE for details. Individual awardee will receive an email notification direct from RGC.

  - For Faculty of Science and School of Chinese Medicine, consideration will also be made for applicants with a minimum overall score in the College English Test (CET) Band 6 at 500 and grade B in the CET-SET (Speaking English Test).
  - Open Tests Results (e.g. GRE/GMAT/MCIL/TEM/CET6)
  - Hong Kong Public Examination Results (e.g. HKCEE/HKALE) (if any)
  - Certificate(s)/supporting document(s) for Scholarship(s)/Prize(s)/Professional Qualification(s)
  - Sample(s) of publication or research work/record of research experience/publication list
 
Note 1 - Upon receipt of the admission offer, applicants should arrange the official transcript(s) for the academic qualification(s) to be sent directly by the original institution(s) to the Graduate School, Hong Kong Baptist University bearing all academic records of undergraduate and/or postgraduate studies to date.
 
Note 2 - HKBU graduates/students would be exempted from submitting certificate(s) and transcript(s) for their previous/current studies in the University.
Note 3 - Please go to the "Supporting Document" section to upload your documents. Do not send hard copies as it may delay your process.
 
 #  Non-local applicants applying for part-time postgraduate courses should provide appropriate and valid visa to prove their eligibility to stay and study in Hong Kong.
 
(b)   Confidential Recommendation Form

  If you choose to submit the documents in the form of hard copies, please mark your name and application number on all pages.

7. Notification of Results
  Applicants who are selected for interview/written examination or are offered admission to a programme will receive an individual notification by email/phone.
  Applicants who are offered admission to a programme will receive individual notification by mail and email. If an admission offer is made, applicants must decide whether or not to accept the offer by a specified date. To accept the offer, applicants are required to pay the tuition fee (non-refundable) by a specified deadline. Applicants being put on the waiting list or fail to be given an offer will also be informed of the application result in writing.

  - TOEFL/IELTS results (Individual programme may stipulate different English language requirement, or equivalent acceptable qualifications, suitable for their fields of study. For programme specific entrance requirements, please refer to the e-prospectus for details.)
  - Test Results (e.g. CET6, GMAT, GRE, MCIL, TEM)
  - Hong Kong Public Examination Results (e.g. HKCEE/HKALE/HKDSE)
  - Certificate(s)/supporting document(s) of scholarship(s) and prize(s) (if any)
  - Certificate(s) of professional qualification(s) (if any)
  - Sample(s) of publication or research work/record of research experience/publication list (if any)
 
Applicants may submit the documents by various means:
 
- go to the "Supporting Documents" section to upload the electronic copies;
- by fax to (852) 3411-5133;
- by post to The Graduate School (Address);
- by email to gs@hkbu.edu.hk;
- in person to the above office during office hours or to the collection box next to the entrance of the office.
 
Note 1 - Upon receipt of the admission offer, applicants should arrange the FULL official transcript(s) to be sent directly from the original institution(s) to the University. These documents should bear all the academic records of their undergraduate and/or postgraduate studies to date.
 
Note 2 - HKBU graduates/students are exempted from submitting certificate(s) and transcript(s) for their previous/current studies in the University.
 
*Non-local applicants applying for part-time postgraduate courses should provide appropriate and valid visa to prove their eligibility to stay and study in Hong Kong.
 
(b)   Confidential Recommendation Form (Not applicable to Postgraduate Diploma in Education applicants)
    The two referees should be requested to complete and return the form directly to the Graduate School within two weeks from the date the applicants file their application. Referees can send back their recommendations through post to the Graduate School, email (gs@hkbu.edu.hk) or fax (852-3411 5133). If you want to submit on their behalf, you have to post to us the signed forms sealed by your referees.
 
Note - If applicants wish to provide supplementary documents, they should quote the application number on all pages.
 
  Applicants who choose to submit the documents in the form of hard copies should mark their name and application number on all pages.

3. Application Fee: HK$300 (Non-refundable)
  To complete the submission of an application, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of HK$300 for each online application. Otherwise the application will not be further processed. Please settle the fee by one of the following methods:
 
(a) through E-Payment. That is to pay on-line by credit card, either VISA, MASTER or CUP card.
   
Note 1 : If you would like to use the VISA/MASTER card to pay for the online application fee (non-refundable), please select E-Payment option and choose the BEA JETCO Payment Gateway.
Note 2 : If you would like to use the CUP card to pay for the online application fee (non-refundable), you are required to use Internet Explorer 7.0 or above to submit e-payment. Please select E-Payment option; then choose UnionPay Online Payment (UPOP).
(b)   using Octopus at the service counter of the Graduate School; or
(c)   using the pre-printed pay-in slip (provided by the University) which is obtainable at The Graduate School and mail us the original receipt (University's copy);
(d)   using the "Credit Card Payment Form". Please complete and return the form to the Graduate School; or;
(e)   using the "HKD Account Deposit Form" which is obtainable at any branch office of the Hang Seng Bank to direct deposit the fee to the University's account. Applicants must clearly fill out all details as requested and mail us the original receipt. Please click "Sample - HKD Account Deposit Form" to view the necessary details. Applicants are advised to keep a photocopy of the receipt for reference if necessary; or
(f)   Applicants who are residing overseas at the time of application may also settle the application fee by bank draft or certified bank cheque made payable to "Hong Kong Baptist University".
 
Note - Applicants are reminded NOT to settle the payment by ATM transaction, cash or personal cheques.

4. Student Visa
  The Hong Kong Immigration Department requires all full-time non-local students (from overseas or the Mainland China) to obtain a student visa in order to study in Hong Kong.
  Non-local students are defined as persons entering Hong Kong for the purpose of education with a student visa / entry permit issued by the Director of Immigration. Newly admitted non-local students shall refer to the student visa application method for details.
  Part-time non-local students should possess appropriate and valid visa to prove their eligibility to stay and study in Hong Kong.

5. Application Acknowledgement
  After you have submitted the application, an application acknowledgement note with an application number will be sent to you by email. Please check the accuracy of your application data and report any discrepancies immediately in writing to the Graduate School. You are advised to quote your application number in all subsequent correspondence with the University.

7. Notification of Results
  Applicants may check the admission decision via the Online Application System. For applicants who have been offered to study at the University, the admission decision will be sent to you by email and by post.
  To accept the offer, applicants must pay the non-refundable Admission Confirmation Fee and confirm the acceptance via the Online Application System by the specified deadline. Otherwise, the University would assume that the applicants do not wish to enroll our programme and the offer would be automatically withdrawn. Only applicants with an admission offer will receive a notification from the University.
